Chicago Alderman Sandi Jackson , Jackson’s wife retires from Chicago City Council

(UPI) — Chicago Alderman Sandi Jackson, wife of former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., Friday resigned as a member of the Chicago City Council, citing family issues.
Jackson submitted her resignation, effective Tuesday, to Mayor Rahm Emanuel, the Chicago Tribune reported.
“After much consideration and while dealing with very painful family health matters, I have met with my family and determined that the constituents of the 7th Ward, as well as you Mr. Mayor, and my colleagues in the City Council deserve a partner who can commit all of their energies to the business of the people,” her resignation letter said. “Therefore, it is with a heavy heart that I tender my resignation as alderman of 7th Ward, effective [Tuesday].”
Jesse Jackson Jr., D-Ill., resigned from Congress before Thanksgiving amid a federal investigation into misuse of campaign funds and mental health issues. The former congressman has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. He had been on medical leave from Congress since June.
